Flood Safety Awareness Week
Flood Safety Awareness Week is March 14-18. This year it is more important than ever after the devastation Japan is facing right now. It is important to be aware that even if you are not in a designated flood area, you can be affected. Fast melting snow, severe storms, and extended rainfall can all contribute to flooding. The average flood insurance claim is $33,000!!
“Floods are the nation’s leading natural disaster – anywhere it rains, it can flood” said Loretta Worters, vice president with the I.I.I.”
It is important to know that flooding is excluded in homeowners and renters insurance policies. The National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) offers flood insurance on a separate policy, as do a few private insurers. Visit the NFIP website for helpful tools and information about purchasing flood insurance, or call your insurance agent.
